The hotel offers breathtaking views of the garden from the rooms, but the decor, with sofas huddled around the enormous fireplace and a refrigerated bar, may not be to everyone's taste. The service was top-notch, particularly with tours and ticket assistance available. If you appreciate being surrounded by nature, the location in a beautiful Pennine valley and well-maintained gardens with access to the old abbey ruins will charm you. Dining with French bread was a delightful touch, though there were minor drawbacks.
